The '''Kitab al-Azif''' (Arabic: ''Book of the Dead'') was a book written by {{Wiki|Abdul Alhazred}} that chronicled the history of an ancient eldritch being.<ref name="Talisman">''[[Assassin's Creed: Mirage]]'' – [[Talisman]]: Monstrous Talisman</ref> It was believed to cause the death of all those who read it.<ref name="ACM">''[[Assassin's Creed: Mirage]]'' – [[Al-Jahiz's Lost Books]]</ref>

In the 860s, the famed author [[Al-Jahiz]] sought to collect the book to add to his library in the [[House of Wisdom]]. The [[Hidden One]] [[Basim Ibn Ishaq]] found a copy of the book in the ruins of [[Seleucia-on-the-Tigris]] and delivered it to him, for which he was awarded a [[talisman]] by the author.<ref name="ACM"/>

The ''Kitab al-Azif'', as well as the ''Monstrous Talisman'' given in reward for retrieving it, is a reference to the {{Wiki|Necronomicon}}, a fictional cursed book part of {{Wiki|H. P. Lovecraft}}'s {{Wiki|Cthulhu Mythos}}.
