From 1592 to 1598,<ref name="Imjin War Wiki">{{WP|Japanese invasions of Korea (1592–1598)}}, Joseon fought the {{Wiki|Japanese invasions of Korea (1592–1598)|Imjin War}} against an invading [[Japan|Japanese]] coalition. [[Yun Pyeong-Gyu]], a scholar and engineer of the [[Zhang Wei Union]], had ancestors who fought in the war and were slaughtered. In 1725, during the reign of {{Wiki|Yeongjo of Joseon|Yeongjo}}, a Joseon envoy was sent to the {{Wiki|Manchu}} [[Qing dynasty|Qing Empire]]. Following the events at [[Sun (Hualien Trading Company)|Sun]]'s floating gambling Den that resulted in the slaughter of [[Shimazu Saito]]'s followers, Edward recruited her into the organization and brought her back to their headquarters. Upon recognising her as a Japanese [[samurai]], Yun deeply objected to Edward's decision, with Zhang telling Edward and [[John Young]] of the wars fought between Joseon and the Japanese. While Saito was grateful for being recognised as Japanese unlike her [[Shimazu clan|clanmates]], Yun told her to shut her mouth and brought up how his ancestors were slaughtered during the Imjin Wars. Eventually, Yun and Saito dropped the animosity during an archery contest and agreed to work together.<ref name="FT27" />
