The '''Irish War of Independence''' (1919 – 1921) was a {{Wiki|guerilla war}} in [[Ireland]] during which the nation's [[Civilian|citizenry]] rebelled against the ruling [[British Empire]] in effort to secede and form their own country. The {{Wiki|Irish Republican Army}} engaged in regular fights with the [[British Army]], its local {{Wiki|Royal Irish Constabulary}} [[police]] force, and British-aligned Irish paramilitary forces.
