The '''Icarus affair''' was an incident in [[Japan]] that occured at one of [[Nagasaki]]'s ports, where two [[British Army|British]] sailors disembarked and spent a summer night in the city. The next day, their bodies were found and no suspects were found or arrested. As a result, the British consul [[Harry Parkes]] was convinced by his right-hand man and [[British Rite of the Templar Order|British Templar]] [[William Lloyd]] to demand compensation from the [[Tokugawa shogunate]] for their inactivity. The demands required [[Tokugawa Yoshinobu]] to retire the governor of Nagasaki and to send five hundred officers to the foreign sector.<ref name="CH2">''[[Assassin's Creed: Fragments – The Blade of Aizu]]'' – Chapter 2</ref>

Tokugawa conceded to the demands and later resigned as the last shogun of Japan. However, his concession and the affair led to the fracture between the shogunate and the Imperial court.
