The '''Glorious Revolution''' (1688 – 1689) was the collection of events leading to the deposition of King [[James II of England]] and replacement by his nephew and son-in-law [[William III of England|William of Orange]], then ruler of the [[Netherlands|Dutch Republic]]. ==History==
James II's ascension to the throne in 1685 and following policies of religious tolerance as well as his proximity to [[France]] and overt Catholicism alienated a large portion of [[England]]'s  population. English Parliamentarians persuaded William of Orange to cross the English Channel from the Netherlands, causing King James' rule to collapse.<ref name="Initiates">''[[Assassin's Creed: Initiates]]'' – [[Assassin's Creed: Initiates#Timeline|Timeline]]</ref>

These events would lead to the ban of the re-establishment of Catholicism in England, the creation of the {{Wiki|Declaration of Right, 1689|Declaration of Right}} and further restrictions to the monarch's power.<ref name="Initiates"/>
