The '''action at Lanark''' was the start of a [[Scotland|Scottish]] counter-offensive against the [[England|English]] during the [[First War of Scottish Independence]], taking place at [[Lanark]], Scotland in May 1297.

Engineered by [[Assassins|Assassin]] [[William Wallace]], the action had two main objectives: first, to "ignite the fire of revolt throughout all Scotland" <!-- Originally "embraser le feu de la révolte à travers toute l'Écosse" --> and rally the clans against the English; and secondly, to keep [[Edward I of England]] occupied and slow down the [[Templars]] after the [[Stone of Scone]].<ref name = "Chapter 27">''[[Assassin's Creed: Fragments – The Highlands Children]]'' – Chapter 27: ''Révolte''</ref>

==History==
William Wallace, having spent the winter prior to the attack fleeing from the [[Lann Fala]] with the Stone of Scone with him, decided to get ahead of the English and deal them the first blow. He called fellow Assassin [[Deorsa]] to go to [[Ben Alder|Beinn Eallair]], retrieve [[Fillan]] and invite [[Sören]] to join them, which the mercenary agreed, along with his group.<ref name = "Chapter 27"/>

Sören's group wasted no time in leaving for Lanark, though luckly they did not encounter neither Edward's forces nor the Lann Fala in their travels. Arriving at the meeting place, they soon learned of the two targets Wallace had chosen: [[William Heselrig]] and [[Bradley Dacre]]. The former was an ally of the Templars and the Lann Fala, having been placed into the position of Sheriff of Lanark by Edward I to control the city and its surroundings with an iron fist. The latter was a commander of a camp set nearby. With the deaths of the targets, revolt spread throughout the city.
