In August 1791, [[Saint-Domingue Brotherhood of Assassins|Haitian Assassin]] [[Dutty Boukman]] led a {{Wiki|Haitian Vodou|Vodou}} ceremony at Bois Caïman and called for a major rebellion, as the first part of a plan devised by [[Eseosa]], taking some inspiration from [[François Mackandal]]. Boukman prophesized that fellow [[Assassins]] [[Jean-François Papillon]], [[Georges Biassou]], and [[Jeannot Bullet]] would be the leaders of a resistance movement that would free the [[Slavery|enslaved]] people of Saint-Domingue.
