In all honesty, we can go with Golden Guidai if that pleases you, since it's basically the same thing. —unsigned comment by 陆山君阿贼 (talk · contr)
Yes,the Guidai(龟袋)had a specific meaning in Medieval China,it evolved from Yudai(鱼袋)诸葛彻 (talk) 03:35, August 2, 2020 (UTC)诸葛彻
Yang guozhong is so evil that he used Wu Zhou's symbol →guidai, recommended to be deathMaster Templar Zhao (talk) 03:56, August 2, 2020 (UTC)
- The flowchart that was revealed to us contains some English translations, and "Golden Turtle" was used as the official translation. Otherwise, I would have recommended "Golden Tortoise Pouch" to be honest. Even in Chinese, I don't know why they would keep 袋 in their name even if it is their symbol. Kind of weird. - I do th know if this means anything but google translates "gudai" as "ancient". But if the English translation has been given then okay. Maybe they wanted another animal name like the sneak but one connected to ancientness given the name of the order. Lacrossedeamon (talk) 06:44, August 3, 2020 (UTC)
- Gudai means 'ancient', guidai means 'turtle bag'. But I actually would have advised against keeping guidai untranslated because I also see the meaning of jingui, 'Golden Turtle', to be very clear. All in all, it won't make sense to me if we kept any part of it untranslated. But the official translators seems to have chosen to omit bag from the English to avoid the awkwardness. - Of course, they would keep the Pouch in the name since the emphasis is on 'pouch'. What signifies the ranking is the pouch with golden/silver turtle/fish inside it, not the turtle-shaped gold nugget inside. I'd recommend you to at least read a book or two on Chinese history unless making yourself sound so mighty and ignorant is intentional. 陆山君阿贼 (talk) 05:49, August 4, 2020 (UTC)
- That hostility and condescension was entirely uncalled for. All I said was that I didn't know why they kept the word in it rather than making any claims about it, hence admitting to my own ignorance and inviting any explanation. As an aside, I know that the significance is in the pouch; I didn't think that that necessarily means that the group still has to call themselves a bag for simple semantic reasons. Also, as silly as our moderator's comment might have been, it is against our guidelines to remove messages unless they are clearly spam or vandalism. - I just noticed that you're the individual who first opened this topic. If you're annoyed that we removed "pouch" from the English translation, as I said, I actually think it should stay so would be in agreement with you on that, but sourcing policy dictates that we have to go along with Ubisoft's translation, and currently the translation we have seen them use is just "Golden Turtle". :-/ I can provide the flowchart as proof if you would like. Here's the character chart that was released which has some English translations. Unfortunately, this was the highest resolution we have been able to find so far, and our eyes were strained trying to read it. (>_<) The name "Golden Turtles" is used. I do think that "pouch" or "bag" should be retained as the more accurate translation. I wonder if it would be wrong of us to make an exception here to sourcing policy given that this is pre-release material and may not be the most authoritative? There's no hostility going towards anyone on this platform, mostly just discontent against the translator who worked on the 'leaked' flowchart. The translation is at best mediocre, and a bad representation of the hard work and effort the author put into his work. I admit I got a bit hotheaded and overly-protective when I thought you were saying that the 'pouch' in Chinese is completely unnecessary, taking it as an insult towards our culture and history. 陆山君阿贼 (talk) 06:38, August 4, 2020 (UTC)
I mean, both Golden Turtle or Golden Tortoise Pouch is kinda bad in any sense, since both cause confusion and are astray from the origin. Jin-Guidai is basically a silk pouch with turtle-shaped gold nuggets inside, and it's only used during Wu Zetian's regime. (It was mostly Yudai, pouch with fish-shaped nuggets inside, during the governance of other emperors) Yang Guozhong, once the officer of Wu Zetian, used the Jin-Guidai as the icon of the order that would continue Wu Zetian's law and strikes fear into people's hearts. 陆山君阿贼 (talk) 06:51, August 4, 2020 (UTC)
