Savannah, Georgia
Savannah is the oldest city in Georgia, United States.
History[edit | edit source]
In 1751, the Templar John Harrison was stationed in the city. He instructed the governor of Florida, Alonso Fernández de Heredia, to send raids against the British forces in the city. In a letter to Grand Master Reginald Birch, Harrison recommended that Fernández be made the governor of Yucatán. With the increasing power of the Colonial Brotherhood and the possibility of Assassin interference, Harrison also strongly called for their Order to relocate out of Florida.[1]
During the Seven Years' War, the Templar Shay Cormac sent a ship to the city to retrieve a document held by its governor. Said document was of particular interest to Cormac's Templar allies.[2] After several continuous Spanish raids on British naval forces, the Templars sent an envoy to check in for updated reports from the governor.[3]
During the American Revolutionary War, Savannah was captured by British forces under Sir Archibald Campbell, who was supported by the Assassins as they believed that Campbell's Patriot counterpart, Major General Robert Howe, was connected to the Templars.[4] By 1782, the British still retained control of Savannah in spite of the American and French victory in Virginia. The Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton sent his recruits to convince Sir Guy Carleton to order the evacuation of troops and any dissenters from the city.[5]
On 8 March 1946, the Assistant Secretary of the United States Treasury, Harry Dexter White, met with the honorary advisor to the United Kingdom Treasury John Maynard Keynes at the inaugural meeting of the International Monetary Fund's Board of Governors in Savannah.[6][7]
