Pagoda of Chengtian Temple
The Pagoda of Chengtian Temple (Chinese: 承天寺塔; meaning 'Bearing Heaven Pagoda'), is an 11-storey brick pagoda in Yinchuan, China, originally built during the reign of the Emperor Yizong of Western Xia.[1] In the 13th century, the Mongolian Assassins used it as a place to train under the retired Assassin Wu. However, after Wu was killed by his charge Shengtong, she then began teaching Assassin techniques to the monks in order to help Genghis Khan's youngest son Tolui.[2]
In 1227, just after assassinating Genghis, the Levantine Assassins' Mentor Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and his entourage stopped at the Pagoda, not knowing some of them served as the late Khan's spies. Having they informed Shengtong of the events that had transpired, she drugged their tea with sedatives and stole the Sword of Eden they carried. Shengtong then entered the pagoda and set the entire top floor ablaze as soon as she noticed the Assassins' approach, signaling the Mongols. Nevertheless, the group managed to recover the Sword of Eden and leave the pagoda.[2]
