The Nuestra Señora de Atocha was a Spanish galleon that sank with the rest of the Spanish Treasure Fleet of 1622, off the coast of Florida. Loaded with gold, silver, jewels, and other valuable cargo destined for Spain, the ship's treasure inspired many salvaging efforts throughout the centuries.[1] The pirate Alonzo Batilla recovered an emerald gold pin from the galleon in the early 18th century, though most of the wreck would only be recovered in 1985.[2]
