Alan Seeger (1888 – 1916) was an American war poet who served in the French Foreign Legion, fighting and dying in World War I.[1]

Out of love for France, Seeger joined the Foreign Legion in 1914, at the outset of the First World War. During his travels, his path crossed that of the Crystal Skull the Foreign Legion guarded, and he began working on unlocking the artifact's secrets. He kept a diary with notes of his investiagtion and even hid clues in his poems. He was killed in action in July 1916, and his diary would later end up in the hands of fellow legionnaire Paul-Frédéric Rollet.[2]
