The Roman Ruins[1] were an abandoned structure in the Levant, nestled within the mountainous terrain of the Kingdom, at the halfway distance between Jerusalem and Acre. Consisting of the ruins of an ancient complex, the area featured stone foundations, broken columns, and remnants of classical-style architecture, indicating that the complex dated to at least the late Roman Empire.[2]
In 1191, the Levantine Assassin Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad visited the ruins, where he collected ten Crusader army flags and assassinated a Templar knight stationed nearby.[2]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
The Roman Ruins appear to be based on Palmyra, particularly the Monumental Arch.[3] However, the location being depicted as a crossroad between Acre, Masyaf, Damascus, and Jerusalem is geographically inaccurate, as in reality, Palmyra is the northeasternmost of those sites.
