During the 15th century, Venice was a part of a republic: The Most Serene Republic of Venice (Venetian: (Serenìsima) Repùblica Vèneta or Repùblica de Venesia, Italian: Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia) or Venetian Republic, often referred to as La Serenissima, in reference to its title in Venetian. The republic itself extended to a part of the Northeastern Italy and the coasts of the Adriatic Sea.

Venice was formed from the refugees from the Hunnic and Germanic invasion of Padua, Aquileia, and Altino. Since, Venice became a major trade and naval power in not just Italy, but all of Europe. The city soon became the new battleground of the war between the Assassin's and Templars.
