The Varangians are a guard archetype in Assassin's Creed: Revelations. Similarly to the Almogavars, they are an exclusively Byzantine archetype. They are the equivalent of the "Seeker" archetype from previous installments, as they fight and wield halberds as seekers did. They also wield pistols that they use when disarmed.

Trivia

• Historically, the Varangians were Scandinavians, and from the 9th to 14th century, served as the personal guard of the Byzantine Emperor, functioning similarly to the Janissaries, who were the personal guard of the Ottoman Sultan.
