Sun was the chief of a local village located on the coastal regions of the Ming Empire.

In the 1520s, Sun was one of those who were forced to make an agreement with a Japanese pirate named Taki Choji, offering him tributes of food and resources in exchange for peace and no raids on their villages. In 1526, Zhang Yong, a Ming eunuch and the Templar leader of the Eight Tigers, met with Choji, claiming to have come on behalf of Sun to present their tribute.[1]
