Spring of Peirene was a spring located east of the Temple of Aphrodite on the Akrokorinth in Korinthia, Greece.

In Greek mythology, the spring was the favorite watering-hole of the winged horse, Pegasus. Once when he came to drink, he was captured by Bellerophon,[1] the son of Korinth's King Glaukos.

When the hetaerae fled Korinth for fear of The Monger, they used the Spring of Peirene as a meeting place.[2] During the Peloponnesian War the spring was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[1]

Trivia

  • The Spring as well as the fountain are both named after the nymph Peirene.
