Spring of Peirene

Spring of Peirene was a spring located east of the Temple of Aphrodite on the Akrokorinth in Korinthia, Greece.

In Greek mythology, the spring was the favorite watering-hole of the winged horse, Pegasus. Once, when he came to drink, he was captured by Bellerophon, the son of Korinth's King Glaukos.

When the hetaerae fled Korinth for fear of The Monger, they used the Spring of Peirene as a meeting place. During the Peloponnesian War the spring was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.

Trivia

• The Spring as well as the fountain are both named after the nymph Peirene.
