The Aquila was a Continental Navy vessel during the American Revolutionary War. It was captained by the Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton, with Robert Faulkner as his first mate. The ship was used to sail across the Caribbean Sea and the Eastern Seaboard of North America,[1] and to trade with overseas merchants.[2]
The vessel's broadside cannons could be loaded with five types of projectiles; including the standard round shots, chain-shots to disable enemy ships, grapeshot, shrapnel shells, and heated shots to start fires.
The Aquila was also armed with swivel cannons that could be aimed at specific targets,[3] such as another ship's captain or gunpowder reservoir.[4]
A tap of the button changes speed between full stop, half-sail, and full sail. The faster you're going, the less manuverability you have. Your mini-map shows wind direction, which can also effect movement. Left triiger or L2 fires a pinpoint cannon that is great for takingout smaller ships. Right trigger or R2 fires off a less accurate, full broadside of cnnons that devaste multiple targets. Finally, tap X or square and your crew will take cover from incoming fire, dramatically reducing damage to the ship's health meter.
Three major threads that account for the bulk of the naval experience in the game. The most straightforward are privateer missions, in which Connor leads his crew into battle to retake an area of the sea from nefarious elements. These one-off battle missions usually involves ship-to-ship battles and some unique objective. A second thread is a dedicated storyline about the Templars and a histroical figure named Nicholas Biddle, a well-known naval officer of the time.
The third naval-connected game element is all about pirates and hidden treasure. Hidden chests all over the game world contain special trinkets, which can be given to a scruffy individual named Pegleg who resides at your Homestead harbor. In tur, he gives you a letter related to the infamous pirate, Captain Kidd. Each of these letters guides you to a different island in the Atlantic where a torn piece of a treasure map may be found. Locate all six to reach the long lost-treasure.
