In Greek mythology, Peleus was the mortal King of the Myrmidons and the father of the hero Achilles. He was also the brother of Telamon and uncle of Ajax.

During the Peloponnesian War, a xiphos allegedly belonging to Peleus was kept in a chest in Artemisia Fort on the island of Kos. The misthios Kassandra claimed the sword for herself when she infiltrated it.[1]
