Orléans is a prefecture and commune in north-central France, southwest of Paris.

During the Hundred Years' War from 1428–1429 the city was under siege by the invading English armies. Jeanne d'Arc participated in the siege.

Trivia

Orléans, Ontario and New Orleans, Louisiana are named after the city.
