Mass Exodus
Template:WPmemories
Mass Exodus is a memory in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
It is the first memory of the game, and took place right after the memories of Assassin's Creed II. After Minerva's speech, Ezio escaped the Vatican Vault along with his uncle Mario.
Description
After leaving the Vault, Ezio and Mario are met by a group of Cardinals in gathered in the Sistine Chapel. They are angry with the Assassins for breaking into their holy place and causing trouble. Outside, in an enclosed courtyard more Cardinals were gathered and were chanting the following prayer:
- "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the armor of God, the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked"
- ―The Cardinal's Prayer upon Ezio's escape[src]
Mario and Ezio then fought their way through the streets and use their freerunning skills to evade the Papal Guards and escape from the Vatican District. The two climbed on top of a tall tower overlooking the Tiber River, and attempted to destroy the Apple of Eden by dropping it in the Tiber. Before Ezio has the courage to drop the apple, Mario takes it from him. Then the two perform a Leap of Faith into the river.
Dialogue
- Minerva: It is done. The message is delivered. We are gone now from this world. All of us. We can do no more. The rest is up to you....Desmond.
- Ezio: What? Who is Desmond? I don't understand! Please, wait! I have so many questions!
Minerva vanishes, leaving Ezio in the Vault. He walks out and notices that Rodrigo is gone. The Staff is still standing in place adjacent the Vault. Ezio attempts to remove it, but it quickly sinks beneath the earth.
- Mario: Better in the hands of the earth than in the hands of man.
- Ezio: Uncle!
- Mario: What can I say? We sent a single man against an entire army! I was worried! Quick, climb up. We have to get out of here.
Ezio climbs out of the pit.
- Ezio: You would not believe the things I have seen, Mario.
- Mario: Then be sure to stay alive that I might hear of them.
- Ezio: I expect opposition.
- Mario: And I expect the Borgia to mourn the loss of many lives tonight.
They return to the Chapel where the Cardinals have regained consciousness.
- Cardinal 1: Che cosa?! (What's this?!)
- Cardinal 2: Assassini! God will see you pay for your crimes!
- Cardinal 3: You have desecrated the sanctity of this holy place!
- Ezio: You condemn what you do not understand!
- Mario: We must go, Ezio. Now!
They leave the Vatican and enter Rome.
- Mario: Did Rodrigo manage to hurt you?
- Ezio: Barely. My armor blunted his attack.
After free running through Rome they reach the top of a tower. Ezio holds the Apple over the Tiber preparing to drop it.
- Mario: This decision is yours alone to make. Only do so quickly. Give it to me. You can do with it as you will later.
- Ezio: Bene. (Good)
- Mario: Jump!
Mario performs a Leap of Faith into the Tiber and Ezio follows suit.
Outcome
Ezio and Mario successfully escaped Rome and safely returned to Monteriggioni with the Apple.
