"I joined the Brotherhood for a reason: that humanity - all humanity - must be free. I may not be a fighter, but I believe in that battle. Any man who leaves a child to die, fights for nothing."
―Jennifer Querry scolding Tom Stoddard, 1692.[src]

Jennifer Querry (unknown – 1692) was a 17th century British Assassin active during the Salem witch trials. She had one son, David, and was a nurse before joining the Brotherhood.[1]

Biography

In 1692, Querry was tasked with scouting Salem and gathering information about a potential Piece of Eden as her first mission. She used her profession to infiltrate the warehouse where those accused of being witches were kept to identify local Templars and gain information from the women. Querry learned that Reverand Samuel Parris and Justice William Stoughton were both Templars and were behind the witch trials, seeking a Piece of Eden they believed responsible for the hysteria.[1]

After a month, Querry was joined by the more experienced Tom Stoddard in the investigation. She discovered him under attack by three Templar agents at their rendezvouses point, and dispatched the last attacker after Stoddard killed the first two. He blamed her for compromising their presence in the town, as the Templar agents had known the initial watchwords for their meeting. After disposing of the bodies, Querry led Stoddard to the warehouse where the women were kept, noting that she had seen several accused escorted into the building but never saw them inside. After Stoddard eliminated a guard, Querry discovered a secret staircase within the fireplace. Finding a prison underneath the warehouse, she and Stoddard freed Dorothy Osborne and the mute boy David after Dorothy promised to show them the artifact's location. Unbeknownst to Stoddard, David was actually Querry's son.[1]

However, as Stoddard was convinced that Dorothy was bluffing, he threatened the young girl as Jennifer tried to stop him and reminded him of the Creed. Dorothy suddenly fainted and her eyes turned white as she repeated Stoddard's father's last words. Querry immediately went to the young girl's side as Stoddard defended them from an oncoming wave of attackers.[1]

With the help of David, Jennifer discovered an exit. Stoddard then set the underground base aflame and the four escaped to the swamp. However, due to exhaustion, Querry and Stoddard was unable to carry David and Dorothy further. Jennifer contradicted Stoddard's idea to send the boy to Ipswich, and still forced herself to save her son, resulting to a gunshot wound to another wave of attackers. The Templars and the men finally caught up to her and she finally chose to leave David.[2]

Unbeknownst to Jennifer, the Templars were following her. After bandaging herself, she found Stoddard and Dorothy hiding by the dock and told them that she abandoned the boy. Stoddard, thinking that she was lying and had in fact intentionally led the Templars there, accused her of being a traitor to the Brotherhood and attempted to kill her. However, they were suddenly assaulted by Templars and tied them up.[2]

William Stoughton tortured the Assassins for information. However, when they threatened to torture David, Jennifer ignored Stoddard's request to stay silent and offered to give information to save her son. The Templar guard cut her down but before she could speak, Consus had once again possessed Dorothy. Jennifer took upon the opportunity to kill a guard and free Stoddard as the Templars were distracted. As she hurried to free David, she was suddenly shot by Stoughton and died.[3]

Personality and characteristics

As a new recruit in the Assassin Brotherhood, Querry was a bit careless. However, she was a believer of the Creed and showed compassion to abused people. Jennifer was also an excellent freerunner as she was able to keep up with a senior Assassin.[1] Jennifer was not great in combat and Stoddard had to engage enemies for her.[2]

Trivia

  • Jennifer Querry is an ancestor of Joseph, a respected Assassin whose loyalty was questioned in the 21st century.
