Herais was an Athenian weaver from the late 5th century BCE.
Biography
In 404 BCE, Spartan soldiers evicted Herais from her workshop and seized control of it, denying her entry to acquire her tools. Shortly after, the misthios Kassandra approached her and requested a robe for a party, having been recommended Herais' services by the Athenian soldier Nikomedes. Herais recounted her plight and Kassandra proposed to recover Herais' tools in exchange for the robe. When Kassandra returned the tools, Herais used them to fashion a robe and sent it to Nikomedes in time for Kassandra to wear and infiltrate a party.[1]
