Herais was a weaver based in Athens in the late 5th century BCE.
Biography
In 404 BCE, Herais had her workshop taken over by Spartan soldiers, who did not let her inside nor did they allow her to take her tools. That same day, she was approached by the misthios Kassandra, who came to request a robe for a party, being sent Herais' way by Nikomedes. Herais reccounted her issues and Kassandra proposed a deal, which the weaver agreed to: Kassandra would recover Herais' tools in exchange for the robe. A short time later, Kassandra fulfilled her part of the bargain and Herais managed to make the robe and send it to Nikomedes in time for Kassandra to use it to infiltrate a party.[1]
