Francis of Assisi
Saint Francis of Assisi (c. 1181 – 1226), born Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone, was an Italian Catholic friar, deacon and preacher. He is one of the most venerated religious figures in history.
Biography
Preaching sermons
Francis led the Franciscan movement, and Jesus Christ, according to their readings of the bible, told his followers to take on a vow of poverty in the passage of King James' Gospel of Luke "And he said to them: Take nothing for your journey; neither staff, nor scrip, nor bead, nor money; neither have two coats."[1][2]
Legacy
After his death, Francis' life was immortalized in frescoes painted by Domenico Ghirlandaio on the Sassetti Chapel of Santa Trinita between 1483 and 1485 in Florence, Italy.[3]
In a 2012 Animus 2.0 Database entry on Santa Croce, written by Shaun Hastings, he included Saint Francis' retelling of Jesus' vow and the later persecution of his followers by the Pope.[1] It was later included in Abstergo Entertainment's Database entry as well in 2014 for the Identity Project.[2] Another of Hastings' entries also described Ghirlandaio's fresco depictions of Saint Francis.[3]
