Erik Thorvaldsson, better known as Erik the Red, was a Norse explorer and the founder of the first settlement in Greenland. He was also the father of Leif Ericson, another famous explorer.[1]

Originally from Iceland, Erik was banished and his family joined him in leaving the island, settling in Greenland.[2]
