Blending
Blending is the slowest and stealthiest method of movement in the Assassin's Creed universe that every Assassin has to learn.
Assassin's Creed
When blending, Altaïr moves very slowly, so as not to arouse suspicion. If he is on foot, he will lower his head fold his hands and imitate a scholar. Altaïr can even blend in with a group of scholars for extra security. If he is on a horse, he will just move (walking the horse) very slowly. When guards are Informed (drawn swords), blending is the best way of avoiding attention.
Usage
To blend, while in low profile, hold the X button (
on PS3, A on Xbox 360 or the Space Bar on the PC's default layout). Informed guards (with swords drawn) are much less likely to notice you if you blend.
When not to blend
Blending is not always effective. Some examples of when blending is ineffective:
- You approach a Templar (they always recognize Altaïr very quickly).
- You approach a stationary guard (or guards). They will always push you back, even if you blend. If you join a group of scholars, however, they will always let you pass through.
- You are being chased by guards. Without a group of Scholars, Blending does not act as a hiding spot. If there is a group of Scholars, however, you can use them as you would any other hiding spot.
- You are standing on a rooftop. Archers will remind you that it's socially unacceptable to be up there even if you Blend.
- You approach an archer in the Kingdom. Kingdom archers defend the area around their post including the ground.
Scholars

Altaïr can unlock scholars (as well as vigilantes) by completing Save Citizen side missions. Scholars patrol the 3 cities in groups of four, moving in a diamond formation. If Altaïr approaches an unaware group and blends, he will lower his head, join the group, and walk with them automatically. He may leave at any time by pressing the Feet button again.
When blending in a group of Scholars, Altaïr is even better concealed than when he blends normally. If Altaïr is being chased by guards and he breaks their line of sight, he may use Scholars as he would any hiding spot. By approaching them, Blending, and joining the group, he is in effect entering a moving hiding spot.
In addition, guards will always step aside to allow a group of scholars through, even in situations where they would not do the same if it were just Altaïr blending. This can prove very useful for getting into restricted areas.
Assassin's Creed II
Paola teaches Ezio how to blend in with the crowd. Like in the original game, the old blending method which involves sitting on a plark or bench with at least two other civilians
thumb|300px|right|Paola teaching Ezio how to blend. can be used, the consequences are the same as the first game; if the civilians stand up and walk off, Ezio is open to guards. You can hide within any group of civilians, as long as there are at least 4 of them. To blend in with people, simply walk into the middle of their group and you must walk with them. This is an updated version of hiding within scholar groups. There is also a bug in Assassin's Creed II that gives the player a never ending blend-ability. if walking onto a non-standable surface while blending the player will stay in blend-mode until Ezio stands up. When Ezio is blending he seems to become duller and lose a lot of color, probably to support that he is hiding.
Usage
In this game, there is no button meant for blend. Instead, you automatically blend when you walk into a group of people (courtesans, scholars, priests, common folk etc.) or moving with the crowd. You can also steal money by hold the Feet button ( on PS3, A on Xbox 360 or the Space Bar on the PC's default layout) while in Low Profile.
Courtesans

After Paola teaches Ezio how to blend and steal, you will be able to hire some courtesans to help you blend for the cost of 150 florins. They act very similar to the scholars in terms of usage. This is the fastest way of blending, at the cost of some florins. However, they can be easily lost if there are guards nearby, as they do not fare well in combat.
