Nicoluso Pisano
Nicoluso Pisano (c. 1470 – 1529) was an Italian maiolica painter,[1] responsible for introducing the Italian methods to Spain and being greatly influential in the production of azulejos.[2]
Biography[edit | edit source]
In May 1519, an Assassin searching the Estudio General de Sevilla for leads in their search for the clues to Leonardo da Vinci's havens met with Pisano under advice from Ignatius of Loyola.[3] Pisano, who had been friends with Leonardo, was deeply saddened by his recent passing. He revealed to the Assassin that he had discussed the ceramic techniques required for crafting azulejos with da Vinci and had also been entrusted with a half tile containing a diagram for a new naval engineering device.[4] He gave the Assassin his piece, as Leonardo had requested of him.[5]
