Yuasa

Yuasa is a town in southeastern Kii, Japan.

History

In 1582, the Kakushiba ikki member and shinobi Fujibayashi Naoe met with Junjiro, who traveled to the town to taste its infamous soy sauce. However, Junjiro also wanted help to make the perfect soup for his former mentor Sorin, who was on his pilgrimage through Kii. He asked Naoe for ingredients that coincided with the sea and the meaning of "green". Venturing further into town, Naoe found a local merchant and bought the ingredients spring onion and konbu. Bringing them back to Junjiro, Naoe assisted in his cooking the perfect soup for Sorin before leaving.[1]

After the downfall of Portuguese Templars Nuno Caro and Duarte de Melo, the Black Crosses Eamon Hathaway and Nirmala were tasked to find and to eliminate both Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke.[2] However, Hathaway also sought and pursued the location of The Observatory, which he learned was a possibility from his time in Beijing.[3] Thus, upon arriving in Japan, he visited Yuasa and began to ask the locals and kids about the strange symbols. Learning of a door in Wakasa, he showcased wooden carvings of a bear and leopard. Yet, his presence caught the attention of Naoe and Yasuke, who confronted him.[2]

After a tense meeting, Naoe and Yasuke let Eamon go as he desired another mission over their deaths.[2] Nevertheless, they investigated his arrival and found the Chinese sailor Yang drunk at a residence. After a drinking game with Yasuke and a fight against Naoe, Yang yielded and revealed that Eamon was searching for the Observatory. However, Yang was instantly killed by Nirmala, who ran but was injured by Naoe having thrown her kunai. After tracking her blood trail, they confronted Nirmala, who held a local man hostage. Before the pair could act, Nirmala stabbed the man grievously while she escaped. After helping the man survive his wound, they decided to continue their investigation into the Black Crosses.[4]
