Themis is a Titan and the personification of justice, law, and fairness in the Greek mythology. She is a daughter of Gaia and often the adviser of Zeus.

History

In the myths, she inherited the role of the Oracle of Delphi from her mother Gaia, before further passing it onto the god Apollo after he slew the Python.[1]

Influence

In 5th century BCE Athens had a temple dedicated to her on the southern side of the acropolis, beside the Monument of Hippolytos. The Spartan misthios Kassandra visited these both landmarks during the Peloponnesian War.[2]

Trivia

  • The temple in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey houses a painted statue commonly associated with the goddess Hera, instead of how Themis is usually depicted: a woman holding the scales of justice and often also a sword.
