The Keys of Altaïr, sometimes known as the Seals, were a collection of five First Civilization artifacts[1] concealing information and memories from their original owner: the Assassin Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad. When brought together, the seals would unlock a powerful weapon hidden deep within the fortress of Masyaf, which was sought by both the Assassins and the Templar Order.[2]

In 1257, Altaïr passed the seals to Niccolò Polo, along with the Codex, during Masyaf's fall, in hopes that he would be able to hide them for future generations. Niccolò succeeded, and hid the five seals in the city of Constantinople.

In 1511, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, Grand Master of the Assassin Order, learned of the seals' existence from a captive Templar during his exploration of the aged Assassin fortress, and traveled to Constantinople in the hope of obtaining them.[2]

With the seals he collected, Ezio became able to see and relive key moments of Altaïr's life.[2]
