Ealhswith (died 902) was the wife of King Alfred the Great. Together they had issue; Æthelflæd, Edward the Elder, Æthelgifu, Ælfthryth, and Æthelweard.

Biography

In 877, Ealhswith took her young daughter, Æthelflæd, on a leisurely walk through Wincestre. They were soon approached by a young boy, Esobert, who gifted the young princess a flower and proclaimed his love for her. Ealhswith humored the boy and said they would have to wait until they were both adults and received Alfred's approval to get married. Afterwards, the two royals returned to the confines of their castle.[1]
