In Assassin's Creed III, several outfits are available to those who complete certain challenges. Once an outfit is unlocked and equipped, it will alter Ratonhnhaké:ton's appearance. However, unlike armor, most of these costumes do not affect any other gameplay elements.
Outfits can be unlocked through a variety of methods, which are listed below.
General appearance
Assassin robes
These are Connor's regular robes, unlocked upon the completion of Sequence 5.
Captain of the Aquila
The Captain of the Aquila outfit was worn by Ratonhnhaké:ton by default when on board the Aquila. It could be unlocked for use in free-roam by purchasing the Digital Deluxe Edition of Assassin's Creed III or by pre-ordering the game at Amazon.[1][2]
Colonial Assassin
The Colonial Assassin outfit was previously owned by the Assassin John DelaTour. It could be unlocked for use in free-roam by purchasing the Digital Deluxe Edition of Assassin's Creed III,[1] by pre-ordering the game at Target,[2] or through pre-ordering it at Play.com.[3]
Ezio's robes
Unlocked through Uplay for 30 points, Ezio Auditore da Firenze's Roman Assassin robes were available from the Animus databases. The robes were purely cosmetic, and were those worn by Ezio during the events of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
Prisoner clothes
This outfit was automatically killing Thomas Hickley.
Captain Kidd's robes
Captain Kidd's robes were unlocked after beating Oak Island.
Trivia

- If the robes were dyed a different color, it would not show on cutscenes, instead it would show the default color. Other outfits would show during cutscenes however.
- The original concept of the Colonial Assassin outfit was quite similar to Connor's default attire, with a cloak and the outfit's primary color displaying some of the notable differences.
- Also, the original concept of the Captain of the Aquila outfit had Connor with the tricorn hat above his hood.
- Connor's initial character design displayed him with a slender build, while his final character model was altered to show him with a significantly more muscular appearance.
