I wanted to ask you something. Which is... what's your name? This article title is conjecture. Although the article subject is canon, no official name for it has been given. |
The Venice headquarters was the Italian Assassins' base for their local operations in Venice and was located just south of the city's Dorsoduro District.[1]
History[edit | edit source]
Originally a Templar headquarters, by 1507, it had been seemingly abandoned. A Templar mole set up a meeting with the Assassins sent to establish a minor branch in Venice, though this turned out to be an ambush, as the Templars had booby-trapped the entrance to trigger a collapse around the Assassins.[2] Unbeknownst to the Templars, the Assassins survived and decided to rebuild the base under their nose.[3]
When the building needed an upgrade, the Assassins' Mentor Ezio Auditore suggested that the Assassins contact his friend Leonardo da Vinci, who had been travelling in Venice at the time.[4] After the Assassins ensured his safety, Leonardo joined them in their workshop.[5] The Assassins also eventually gained the help of a local doctor, who was also assigned to the base.[6]
By 1509, the headquarters' location was no longer a secret to the Templars, who mounted a full assault in an attempt to recover the Venetian Staff of Eden, though the Assassins managed to repel them.[7][8] An old abandoned palace on the lagoon allowed guards and Templars to infiltrate the base's neighborhood. Bastiano da Mezzo was dispatched to eliminate the enemies in the palace and seal off access to it, which he and his group managed to do without much issue.[9]
The Assassins made their headquarters into a veritable fortress, discreetly bringing materials negotiating with masons and making many renovations to the structure. The base also became the center of a network of informants throughout Italy.[1]
In 1524, the Assassins reconvened here after many years away to receive a special briefing about a group of Assassins that had gone missing in pursuit of a renegade member who was causing strife in Cambodia.[10]
