Selim I was the son of [[Bayezid II]] and the brother of [[Şehzade Ahmet]]. When Bayezid favored Ahmet as his successor, a war between Selim and Ahmet as to whom would take the throne. Selim stood victorious, and became Sultan in 1512. His son, [[Suleiman I]], succeeded him.

Yavuz Sultân Selim Khan, Hâdim-ül Haramain-ish Sharifain (Ottoman Turkish: سليم اوّل), also known as Selim I (October 10, 1465/1466/1470 – September 22, 1520) was the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1512 until his death.

Selim I was the son of Bayezid II and the brother of Şehzade Ahmet. When Bayezid favored Ahmet as his successor, a war between Selim and Ahmet as to whom would take the throne. Selim stood victorious and became Sultan in 1512. His son, Suleiman I, succeeded him.
