Andania Mine

Andania Mine was a mine located north of Messene, in the Mines of the Great Trench region of Messenia, Greece.

History

The mine and the nearby town was home to Aristomenes, a King of Messenia who was known for waging war against Sparta during the 7th century BCE. After his death, rumors emerged that his spirit haunted the region and the Spartans.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War the mine served as a military camp and was used by the leader of the Order of Dominion Amorges as his base of operations circa 422 BCE.[2]

The proto-Assassin Darius and misthios Kassandra attacked the mine with the assistance of an Athenian general in an attempt to draw out Amorges. While the Athenian general died in the process, Kassandra was able to enter the mines, where she was confronted by Gergis, a scribe for the Order. Kassandra was forced to kill Gergis and his guards before heading up to the hilltop confront Amorges at the nearby Temple of Zeus.[2]
