Marseille is a city in southern France.

As of 1511, a wealthy merchant in Marseille possessed a treasure rumored to have been of First Civilization origin. Ottoman Assassins sent from Constantinople by Ezio Auditore da Firenze traveled to Marseille and retrieved the artifact from the merchant's home.

That same year, King Louis XII, tired of Marseille's threats of secession, sent his army to banish all Assassins from the city. Aided by the Ottoman Assassins, the French Assassins were able to stop the French army, though they did not resort to violence.

With help of the Ottoman Assassins, the French Assassins were also able to take over Marseille from Templar control, restored and upgraded the city, and also installed several Assassin Dens.
