Leonardo Loredan (1436 – 1521) was the Doge of the Republic of Venice from 1501 until his death. He was an ally to the Italian Assassins in the city.
Before his reign in 1501, an Assassin team led by Francesco Vecellio, was tasked to kill Agostino Barbarigo, the Doge at that time. Agostino had betrayed the Assassins and became the ally of the Borgia, despite his promises to the contrary many years earlier. By making an example of Agostino, sowing fear and insecurity with vague and threatening letters that unbeknownst to him were coated in poison, the Assassins also hoped to send a clear warning to his as-yet undecided successor. Once the deed was done, and Leonardo emerged as his successor, the Assassins delivered him a more explicit warning about crossing the Brotherhood.[1]
Early in his reign, Leonardo scouted a young actor named Bastiano da Mezzo during one of his performances. Impressed with his skill, Leonardo introduced Bastiano to the Italian Assassins, encouraging him to join the Brotherhood.[2]
Upon Ezio Auditore's return from the east with his new fiancé Sofia Sartor in 1512, Loredan was one of the guests at their wedding in Venice.[3]
