L'Amazone was a was one of twelve legendary ships the pirate Alonzo Batilla encountered during the Golden Age of Piracy. A French Navy brig built in Toulon in 1707, she was fast and maneuverable, often accompanied a gunboat as an escort. She was located in Scorpion Reef. Despite the French Navy's poor condition at the turn of the 18th century, some ships built during King Louis XIV's expansionist reign still protected the trade routes between France and its colonies in the West Indies, with L'Amazone being one such example.[1]
