Jeremiah Scudder (died 1777) was a spymaster for the Continental Army and a member of the Colonial Rite of the Templar Order during the American Revolutionary War. He was based in Newport, Rhode Island where he ran a secret network of spies on behalf of the Order, using a merchant stall as a front for his activities.
He employed a spy named Lawrence Cato, not knowing that Cato was an Assassin. Cato was captured by British Regulars and rescued by Ratonhnhaké:ton at Scudder's behest. This ironically lead to Scudder's death when Cato revealed Scudder's Templar status to Ratonhnhaké:ton, who then assassinated him. [1]
