The Hel-hides, named after their leader Geirmund Hel-hide and their ability in combat, were a group of Vikings within Guthrum's forces. It was created after Geirmund foiled an ambush by the Anglo-Saxons on their encampment. As Geirmund's fame grew, warriors flocked to his banner causing Halfdan Ragnarsson to become wary of his increasing power.[1]
