Bedwyn was an open field, known for the Battle of Bedwyn.
History
Following a loss at the battle of Ashdown, the Great Heathen Army regrouped and marched for Bedwyn for another engagement against King Æthelred I of Wessex and his brother Alfred. This time, the Vikings were successful and the Saxons were driven back.[1]
