A gondola is a type of small boat, used across Italy, but most famously used in Venice. It is designed with a longer left-hand side, which allows gondoliers to row it without changing the side the oar is on. They are one of the vehicles available for Ezio's use in Assassin's Creed II.
Trivia
- Gondolas can be found everywhere, except for Tuscany and Monteriggioni.
- A second, more opulent gondola model is used in a mission in Venice; this gondola only appears once.
- The six notches on the front of the gondola represent Venice's six districts.
- There are some gondolas covered with cloth, though you can't use them to move around. They can be looted for some florins, though the money you receive is significantly less than what you would get from a treasure chest. Also, with each city that has a gondola, the cloth that covers the gondola are different colors; in Florence it is red, in Venice it is blue, and in Forli it is green.
- If you get onto an occupied gondola, the person on it will automatically jump off and drown. Interestingly, the bodies of drowned gondoliers never appear above the water, or as silhouettes underneath it, unlike the bodies of soldiers or civilians that are dropped into the water, or slide into it from a sloped roof.
- It is possible to glitch a gondolier by dropping onto the boat from a building and landing directly behind the gondolier. The boat will stop moving, and you can steer as normal, but until you leave the boat and get back on, the gondolier will continue to pole along, blissfully unaware of your presence.
- Grabbing onto the front, notched portion of the gondola will allow you to ride along with the gondolier without him jumping off.
