Chase-breakers are tools featured in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, which players can activate to delay their pursuers, and give themselves more time to escape. These items are indicated with an Animus visual effect to help distinguish them better from the surrounding environment. Trap doors and merchandise lifts take 3-5 seconds before they are usable again.
Types of Chase-Breakers
Lifts
- Main article: Lifts
The lifts in the program functioned in the same manner, however, the weight would not break upon being dropped, and would instead slowly rise back into position. The lift would become available to others in roughly 3-5 seconds.
Trap doors/Portcullises
- Main article: Trap doors
Trap doors consist of one or more sets of gates that close once a player runs through them, effectively stopping any other player or enemy from following. After a few seconds, however, they reopen, allowing other players to run through them.
Crumbling beams/platforms
- Main article: Crumbling beams
When a player free-runs over these Chase-Breakers, they will disintegrate, allowing the player to gain an advantage over his or her pursuer. However, if they do not leave the beam quick enough, it may crumble from underneath them.
Corner-mounted flowerpots
These flowerpots disappear for a few seconds after a player swings on them to turn a corner.
Chandeliers
- Main article: Chandeliers
Chandeliers are only featured in the map Castel Gandolfo. Chandeliers work like dropping planks of wood in other maps by dropping to the ground when run over by the player.
Trivia
- Though only usable by the player in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, some chase breakers have been around since Assassin's Creed II.
- Chase-breakers return in Assassin's Creed: Revelations. In this game's campaign, however, there is another Chase-Breaker, which are soldiers of the opposing faction (Byzantines or Ottomans)
