The Centaurs are a race of half-horse, half-human creatures featuring in the Greek mythology.

History

According to the stories, the Erymanthos Foothills was regarded as a location where centaurs lived.[1] True enough, while on his way to find the Erymanthian Boar, Herakles met the centaurs Pholos[2] and Chiron.[1]

Influence

Atalanta, the princess of Arkadia, had gained fame as a slayer of centaurs in 6th century BCE.[3]

During the Peloponnesian War, a member of The Silver Vein branch of the Cult of Kosmos, The Centaur of Euboea, chose a cryptonym evoking the creatures.[4]

During the Renaissance, a painting by Sandro Botticelli, Pallas and the Centaur, hung within Villa Auditore in Monteriggioni.[5]
