Brass knuckles are a class of melee weapon shaped to fit over the user's knuckles with a view to increasing the force applied through a punch. Despite their name, the weapon was made out of various materials other than brass. Due to increasing limitations and regulations regarding weaponry, particularly during the Victorian era, it was considered less acceptable to openly carry arms of any kind, even for personal defense.
