Altaïr Ibn-La’ahad

Altaïr Ibn-La'ahad (1165-1257), a distant ancestor of Desmond Miles, brought crucial reforms to the Assassin Brotherhood and expanded its influence beyond its Middle Eastern origins.

Altaïr was skilled but arrogant, the youngest man ever to gain the rank of Master. On a mission to retrieve an artifact called the Apple of Eden, he broke the three tenets of the Assassin's Creed, costing him his status. His task for redemption was to stop the Templars, who were playing the Crusaders and Saracens against one another for control of the Holy Land. Altaïr eventually earned the respect of King Richard, hastening the end of the Third Crusade.

The wisdom Altaïr gained let him uncover that his mentor, Al Mualim, was a traitor using the Apple's unfathomable powers for his own selfish desires. After restoring order, he became the Mentor, started a family, and reformed Assassin practices.

Altaïr dedicated the rest of his life to creating a Codex containing his memories, together with the information extracted from the Apple, in the hopes that future generations would use it to establish Assassin guilds throughout the world.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze Ezio Auditore da Firenze (1459-1524) had a passion that drove him from being a carefree youth to an accomplished Assassin leader. Ezio's privileged life vanished when Templar conspirators hanged his father and brothers. Taking up arms left to him by his father, he became an outlaw and traveled to Monteriggioni, where his Uncle Mario revealed his Assassin lineage. Ezio took up their cause, at first to protect his surviving family, but eventually to free Italy from Templar corruption in the form of the Borgias and their allies. Defeating the Borgias took many years, during which he befriended such luminaries as Leonardo da Vinci and Niccolò Machiavelli. They saw his potential and encouraged him to find his own path, and when he became the Brotherhood's Mentor he taught others the same. Later, Ezio traveled to the Middle East in search of Altaïr's lost library and the origins of the Assassins. He learned that his purpose was to be a conduit between an ancient civilization and a man in the future named Desmond. His duty done, Ezio retired from the Brotherhood, married his love, and raised a family before dying content.

Blackbeard Blackbeard (c.1680-1718) was the most famous pirate of the Golden Age and is credited for creating the fearsome image of the pirate that remains in the public consciousness to this very day. Edward Thatch was born in or around Bristol in 1680 and took to the sea in his early teens. Thatch was known by many names throughout history, among them Teach, Theach, Tache, Titche, Teatch, and Tack, to name but a few. He was likely a privateer between the years of 1700 and 1713, but once the Treaty of Utrecht restored peace between England and several European powers, Thatch found himself as one of hundreds of unemployed sailors. Soon thereafter, Thatch befriended Benjamin Hornigold and sailed with him for a few years before they settled in Nassau. There, they began to hatch schemes for nothing less than their own sovereign nation built around their new piratical values. In 1717, after growing a long black beard, Thatch began to refer to himself as Blackbeard, and so a legend was born.

Black Bart Charismatic and handsome, Black Bart (1682-1722) was the most successful pirate of the Golden Age of Piracy, taking more than 470 vessels in his career. Although he is known to history as Black Bart, he never used that name while he was alive. He was born John Roberts in Wales, though little else is known about his early life. It's assumed he began a life at sea in his teens, and in 1719 he was pressed into piracy by a man named Howell Davis, who recognized Robert's abilities as a navigator. When Davis was killed, Roberts was elected captain of the Princess. It's around this time he adopted the name Bartholomew, likely inspired by the renowned buccaneer Bartholomew Sharp.

Benjamin Hornigold Benjamin Hornigold (c.1685-1719) had a relatively short career as a pirate before turning his back on his former comrades to become a pirate hunter on behalf of the Governor of the Bahamas. Much of Hornigold's life is unrecorded, although it is believed he was born in Norfolk, England. He was an early pirate, with his first activity recorded in 1713-14, which makes it likely that he was a privateer. His second-in-command was Edward Thatch, who would later be better known as Blackbeard. For a short time, Hornigold was based in Nassau, where he became involved in plans to create a free republic of pirates. Although he was a skilled sailor and strategist, many felt that he wasn't ruthless enough to succeed as a true pirate.

Adéwalé Born to enslaved parents in Trinidad, Adéwalé was sold to the owner of a prosperous plantation before his teens. He escaped by joining a group of buccaneers who raided the plantation. Adé sailed with this group of men for many years, honing his skills as a sailor. In 1715, he was captured by Spanish authorities, who decided to send Adéwalé to Spain, and loaded him into one of the galleons that made up their perennial treasure fleet. Thanks to a hurricane, and a young Welsh pirate named Edward Kenway, Adé escaped. Freeing more prisoners as they went, Adé and Edward commandeered a brigantine and set sail just in time to beat the worst of the storm. When the hurricane passed, Adé was free once more. Adé became the quartermaster aboard Captain Edward's ship, the Jackdaw. Operating out of Nassau for a time, they grew wealthy off their spoils and lived the lives they had always dreamed of. But Adé was a man who valued the democratic ideals of this pirate community far above the spoils they acquired while living it. And as he saw Edward Kenway fall deeper into a spiral of selfish greed and pointless glory, he wondered if there wasn't a more noble cause he might adopt to suit his ideals. Adé met with Ah Tabai at the Assassin's village in Tulum. There he spoke with the old Mentor and asked him many questions about the Brotherhood. After hearing answers that pleased him greatly, Adé joined them. For over fifteen years, Adéwalé faithfully served the Assassins. But in time, he became increasingly troubled by memories of his past. In 1735, while on a mission to eliminate a Templar Admiral off the coast of Saint-Domingue, he was thrown overboard and washed ashore near Port-au-Prince.

Edward Kenway Edward James Kenway (1693-1735) was a pirate trained by Assassins whose dream of making something of himself came true in a way he never could have imagined. Edward was born in Swansea, Wales and at the age of ten his family relocated to a farm in Bristol. This pastoral life did not agree with the young Edward who became a well-known troublemaker by the time he was in his teens. At 17, this reckless young man met Caroline Scott and a year later they were married, much to her well-bred family's dismay. Edward was committed to providing for his new wife, but quickly fell back into his old habits. In a desperate attempt to get rich, he clung to a dream of privateering. Caroline left him soon after, knowing that she could not persuade him to stay. Across the Atlantic, Edward met Edward Thatch, who would later take the name of Blackbeard, at Nassau. Although he loved the carefree life of a pirate, Caroline was never far from his thoughts, and he still sought out a way to earn big and win her back. And then one day, Edward Kenway met an Assassin named Duncan Walpole…

Haytham Kenway Haytham Kenway (1725-1781), a principled man and formidable Templar, found himself on the wrong side of both history and his son. Haytham's father was Edward Kenway, who trained him with a secret purpose. But one day, young Haytham's home was burned, his half-sister taken, and his father killed. Reginald Birch, a family friend, revealed he was a Templar and offered to help. Years passed and Haytham became a ruthless and efficient killer for the Templars. He was sent to the colonies to establish order and find a crucial First Civilization site. He secured the assistance of Kanien'kehá:ka natives by freeing several captives, including Ziio, with whom he had an ill-fated but passionate affair. When Haytham found his sister, she revealed that the Templars were behind the attack on his home. Edward had been an Assassin, and Birch had him killed for his secrets. Once Birch was dead, Haytham returned to his role, disillusioned by Templar corruption. Haytham wanted to control the growing American Revolution, but the half-native Assassin Connor sabotaged his efforts. Haytham realized Connor was his son with Ziio, and while he tried to find common ground, he knew reconciliation was impossible. Haytham fell to his son's Hidden Blade.

Aveline de Grandpré Aveline de Grandpré, a charming and determined Assassin, operated in the complex world of colonial Louisiana. Aveline was the illegitimate child of a French merchant and an African slave. Shortly after her father married Madeleine de L'Isle to further his business, her mother vanished mysteriously. Her unique upbringing let her grow into a social chameleon who could take on any guise from slave to lady. At first, Aveline was an obedient disciple of her Mentor Agaté. When she discovered a Templar plot to send Louisiana slaves to Mexico to dig for ancient artifacts, she investigated against her Mentor's will and found her mother there. She also learned about a high-ranking Templar called “The Company Man”. She sought “him” for years, even enlisting the aid of the American Assassin Connor, only to learn that “he” was Madeleine. When she tried to warn Agaté, he doubted Aveline's loyalties and his despair led him to suicide. Aveline then joined the Templars, a final ruse to destroy them from the inside. She assassinated her stepmother and kept a crucial artifact from Templar hands.

Connor Kenway Ratonhnhaké:ton (1756-unknown), also called Connor, was an Assassin who struggled with the ideals of liberty and justice, fighting for a cause that ultimately did not embrace him. Connor was the son of a Kanien'kehá:ka mother, Kaniehtí:io, and an English Templar father, Haytham Kenway. Their village burned during the Seven Years' War, killing his mother when he was still a child. Connor's deep-rooted anger was channelled when a Piece of Eden granted him a vision. He was told to seek out the sign of the Assassins, which he found on the home of Achilles, a former Mentor. Achilles reluctantly trained the young man before sending him out to face the Templars, who planned to control North America and exploit ancient technology there. As an Assassin, Connor aided the Patriots and specifically George Washington, the figurehead of the growing American Revolution. He admired their desire for liberty and their opposition to Templar aims, but learned they were destroying his people. Despite his misgivings, he lent his support to such acts as the Boston Tea Party and the Battle of the Chesapeake. He assassinated Templar leaders, including his father. In the end, Connor knew he had made the Revolution a success, but that his people would not enjoy its benefits.

Nikolai Orelov Nikolai Orelov was a working-class Assassin caught up in causes beyond his control that ultimately cost him his family and life. Trained by his father, Nikolai reluctantly undertook a mission to kill Tsar Alexander III, who was in possession of a powerful artifact called the Staff of Eden. Later, the Assassins learned that Templars were experimenting on the Staff and sent Nikolai and a team to destroy it. Their ally Nikola Tesla switched on an electrical weapon early, triggering the Tunguska Event and killing everyone present but Nikolai. During the Russian Revolution, Nikolai became obsessed with the Staff, finally finding a fragment in Rasputin's grave. Considering his duty done, he fled with his wife and daughter to America. But they were deported during the Red Scare, leaving Nikolai to raise their newborn son Innokenti. Nikolai and his son lived alone in the woods until the Brotherhood tracked them down, demanding that he return. He refused and killed the Assassins with his son's help, eventually sacrificing himself to let Innokenti escape. Daniel Cross, Templar sleeper agent, was Nikolai's descendant.

William Miles Cold and calculating, William Miles took over what was left of the modern day Brotherhood and sacrificed everything to save the world. William was born in 1948, and spent much of his early life working with Assassin cells around the world. By the 1980s, he settled in a compound known as “The Farm,” where he trained recruits, including Clay Kaczmarek, Lucy Stillman, and his own son, Desmond. In 2000, the Templars eradicated a vast majority of the Brotherhood in an event known as “The Great Purge.” William became the de facto leader of the few Assassin cells that remained. In 2003, Desmond rebelled and ran away. He resurfaced in 2012, when he was abducted by Abstergo and forced into the Animus Project, attempting to locate an Apple of Eden. William led the rescue effort and brought Desmond to New York. Father and son, along with Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane, found a First Civilization temple, and worked together to prevent a prophesied global catastrophe. Saving the world came at a high cost: Desmond died, and the Precursor entity known as Juno was released. Grieving, William retreated from the Assassins, handing off leadership to his friend Gavin Banks, along with a coded journal that contained many of his secrets. One year later, William has returned to the fight, but his motivations remain as elusive as ever.

Desmond Miles An Assassin who initially rejected his origins, Desmond Miles embraced his destiny and saved the world. Desmond was raised on a remote compound, but rebelled against his father's stifling control and ran away. The Templars found and kidnapped him, putting him into the Animus to relive the genetic memories of his ancestor Altaïr and find them a powerful artifact called the Apple of Eden. He was eventually rescued by Assassins, but by then, he had absorbed Altaïr's wisdom through the Bleeding Effect. Despite the dangers, he continued his research so he could defeat the Templars. Through another ancestor, Ezio, Desmond learned the physical skills of the Assassins. Using these new abilities, he led his team to an Apple, but was possessed by an ancient being who drove him to stab one of his allies. Falling into a coma, Desmond was placed in the Animus to restore his mind. After recovering, Desmond relived the memories of two more ancestors: Haytham, a Templar, and Connor, an Assassin. Through them he accessed the Grand Temple, a site of great power where he sacrificed himself to save humanity from a global catastrophe.

Gavin Banks Gavin Banks is a long-time member of the Assassin Brotherhood who has worked with cells all over the world. Gavin was mentored in Japan by Kenichi Mochizuki, and has engaged in Assassin missions in Australia, Brazil, and America. Gavin is an old friend of the Assassin leader William Miles. When William went underground to mourn the loss of his son Desmond, he gave Gavin his journal, which contained everything he knew about the modern-day Brotherhood, albeit in coded puzzles. As the new leader, Gavin's mission was to rebuild the Assassins, who had struggled since the “Great Purge” of 2000. Gavin travels the world with his team, aboard a ship called the Altair II, which serves as a mobile headquarters for the Brotherhood. Gavin's crew includes:

The Animus The Animus was created by Abstergo Industries using the research of Dr. Warren Vidic, the world's leading authority on genetic memory. Although the Animus is an Abstergo invention, a version of the device has also been developed by the Assassin Brotherhood. Since the creation of Animus technology in 1980, Abstergo has used it on at least 17 test subjects, and the machine itself has gone through several iterations. By 2002, they began to produce Animi in greater numbers, and large facilities were set up in their Philadelphia and Rome locations. Abstergo Industries created the Animi Training Program to train its Templar soldiers in combat. At first, the Animus could only display an individual's personal genetic history. However, as the technology progressed, Abstergo developed the Data Dump Scanner, which allowed an individual to relive the memories of other people's genetic history. It was first used in Project Legacy, an initiative designed to obtain new information on Assassins and Pieces of Eden. In 2012, Dr. Vidic used the Animus in an attempt to find an Apple of Eden to complete the Eye-Abstergo satellite project. When Subject 16 committed suicide, driven insane by the Bleeding Effect (a result of overexposure to the device), the Lineage Research and Acquisition Division delivered Subject 17, a man named Desmond Miles. Although Desmond was able to locate an Apple of Eden, he escaped with help from the Assassins and later returned to kill Vidic. In 2012, Abstergo Entertainment used the technology to create interactive historical simulations, beginning with Liberation. Although Abstergo markets its virtual features as entertainment products, it monitors the resulting user data in a never-ending search for Pieces of Eden.

The Vial Vials were artifacts designed by the First Civilization. When used in conjunction with a Crystal Skull, they created a powerful spying tool. Each Vial was a crystal cube designed to contain a few drops of blood from an individual. When one was inserted into a Crystal Skull, it would project a hologram displaying what that person was currently seeing. The Skull was the centerpiece of a First Civilization sanctuary near Tulum. A Mayan temple was built over the site, and Mayan Assassins lived in a nearby village to protect it. A legendary figure called the Sage was rumored to be the only person who could open the sanctuary and control its security system. One known incarnation of this Sage was the pirate Bartholomew Roberts, and another was an Abstergo employee known only as “John from IT”. The artifacts changed hands several times during the early eighteenth century. For a time, Bartholomew Roberts held the skull itself, making him the most effective pirate in history. Edward Kenway recaptured the skull and returned it to the sanctuary. However, by this time the collection of Vials stored within had gone missing. The present location of the sanctuary, Crystal Skull, and Vials are unknown but are the focus of intensive searches from both the Assassins and Templars.

The Hidden Blade The Hidden Blade is a compact device that has become the signature weapon of the Assassin Brotherhood. Its small blade is designed to quickly extend or retract and remain hidden on the underside of the bearer's forearm. The first recorded use of the Hidden Blade was the assassination of Xerses I of Persia by an Assassin known as Darius. From that moment, it became an important part of the Assassin's arsenal, and by the Middle Ages, its use became very ritualistic, and using a hidden blade required one to sever the ring finger on their left hand. The legendary Mentor of the Levantine Brotherhood, Altair ibn-La'Ahad, made several improvements to the design of the weapon, removing the need for the severed finger, and adding the means to deliver poison and a projectile system. The Ottoman Brotherhood refined the concept into the Hook Blade, which allowed the Assassins to scale walls at a much faster rate. Despite considerable advancements in weapon technology, modern-day Assassins still use the Hidden Blade. Its compact, versatile design still makes it an invaluable tool for the Brotherhood.

The Apple of Eden The First Civilization, a race of advanced beings that predated humans, left traces of their technology scattered throughout the world. Among the Assassin Brotherhood and Templar Order, these relics are referred to as "Pieced of Eden." The most coveted of these are the Apples of Eden, versatile tools that functioned as stores of First Civilization knowledge, but were primarily used as devices of control. Those Who Came Before originally created the Apples as a means of ensuring humanity's subservience by controlling the thoughts, emotions, and behavior of their human servants. The genetic structure of the human race was specifically designed to respond to the Apple's power. Ironically, it also led to a slave revolt, as two humans known as Adam and Eve retrieved an Apple and used it to spark a human rebellion against their masters. Centuries later, the power of the Apples to control the minds of men was recognized by the Templar Order, who began a hunt for the Apples and other Pieces of Eden that continues to this day. An Apple of Eden was to be the centerpiece of the Eye-Abstergo satellite, a Templar plan to use an array of satellites to control theEarth. At least five Apples of Eden are known to exist, and there may be more still hidden in the world.

The Rosenberg Letters

Read Clinton B. Rosenberg's correspondence detailing Abstergo's hand in the cracking of the Human Genome, and his quest for the triple-helix.

Mr. Director,

As requested, I am keeping you abreast of Dr. Pauling's latest findings. Please find an article slated for PNAS (enclosed) which proposes a structural model for deoxyribonucleic acid.

I will spare you the details but you will find his triple-helix model, made of three intertwined strands of DNA, to be highly elegant. It rivals his earlier work on protein structure.

I believe Abstergo Chemicals should pay special attention to the evolution of DNA science as it will likely unlock the very secrets of life. Please note I would be more than willing to play a more direct role to encourage Dr. Pauling's research efforts if you wish me to.

In the meantime, I wanted to thank you for trusting me with the business of the Foundation. I am honoured to facilitate the work of such brilliant scientists.

Rest assured, I did not miss your veiled reference to a potential research position within your company when last we met at the fundraiser. I just find my current work at the Foundation more significant than my personal scientific ambitions. Please know that I appreciate your interest in my career. As per your instructions, I provided Dr. Watson and Cricks' team with the X-Ray crystallography data from Dr. Franklin. Of course, I made sure nothing could be traced back to the Foundation. This new data and their own findings have yielded a bold proposal: they posit that the structure of DNA is a double-helix one. They plan to use it to invalidate Pauling's triple-helix model in an upcoming article in Nature. I am thoroughly unconvinced their model is the correct one. I know one shouldn't depend too much on intuition when it comes to science, but I believe we should encourage our sponsored scientists to push research in the triple-helix model further. Heading the Foundation these last few years was an exhilarating challenge. I feel our support and guidance played a crucial role ushering in a new age in biochemistry. I must however come to terms with the new direction you wish to give to the Foundation. It does not fit with my own vision of keeping the broadest possible agenda, especially in light of Abstergo Pharmaceuticals' decision to focus exclusively on double-helix DNA. As per our recent conversation, I am aware that I might not see “the whole picture” and this might indeed be the time for new leadership. This is why I chose to follow your suggestion and accept the position of senior scientist with your company's Molecular biology R&D department. I trust your “open door” policy will remain in effect. I feel you have unfairly dismissed all my research proposals these last years. Ratonhnhaké:ton's Birth: Kanatahséton, British America, 1756-04-04

Haytham Kenway was sent by his London masters to North America with a mission to find a First Civilization Temple. To accomplish this, he gained the trust of Kaniehtí:io, a Kanien'kehá:ka woman, who revealed that the Precursor site he sought was considered sacred ground. Over the course of their partnership, they grew closer and conceived a child.

Shortly after showing him the site, Kaniehtí:io discovered Haytham's connections to the Templars and their desire to use the Precursor site to shape the world based on the Order's interests.

Stung by the betrayal, she kept her pregnancy a secret and ordered Haytham to leave. Despite knowing the father's affiliations, the villagers allowed Kaniehtí:io to raise her son in their community.

Hide and Seek: Kanatahséton, British America, 1760-11-02

When he was four years old, Ratonhnhaké:ton and his friends ventured into the woods outside their village. While playing hide and seek, he was grabbed and thrown to the ground by a stranger. Soon, he was surrounded by a group of Englishmen.

Ratonhnhaké:ton tried to run, but the men stopped him. One of the group remarked that he looked familiar. The man then grabbed the boy by the throat and asked him questions, but he refused to answer. He insulted Ratonhnhaké:ton and his people, saying they were worthless and should surrender what they had if they knew what was good for them.

Ratonhnhaké:ton demanded to know the name of his attacker, and the Templar Charles Lee identified himself before one of his men knocked the boy out.

A Mother's Death: Kanatahséton, British America, 1760-11-02

Shortly after his confrontation with the Englishmen, Ratonhnhaké:ton regained consciousness only to find the forest full of smoke. He immediately made his way back to his village, Kanatahséton, only to find it on fire.

His mother, Kaniehtí:io, was trapped in a burning longhouse and though he tried his best, the young boy was unable to save her.

In the years that followed, Connor became convinced that Charles Lee was the man responsible for the destruction of his village and death of his mother.

Feathers and Trees: Kanatahséton, British America, 1769-10-04

Ratonhnhaké:ton, now a young man, had learned the ways of the forest and put his knowledge and skills to use for his village. He went out with his friend Kanen'tó:kon to find feathers for a ceremony by the Clan Mother, teaching him how to climb trees and move quickly through the forest on their boughs. He also showed Kanen'tó:kon how to hunt various animals such as hares, foxes, and deer for their meat and skins.

Something to Remember: Kanatahséton, British America, 1769-10-04

Ratonhnhaké:ton wondered why his village did not join the other native communities in pushing the outsiders out of their territory. The Clan Mother revealed that their village was built on sacred ground, and it was their duty to protect it and keep it hidden. She opened a box and revealed a sphere, which she handed to him.

The moment he touched it, Ratonhnhaké:ton experienced a vision. In it, an ethereal woman appeared to him and introduced herself as Juno, saying they were both now in a place called The Nexus. She transformed him into an eagle and guided him through a series of potential futures, not only of his village, but also of North America and the world. She warned that maintaining the status quo would not save anything, but instead would give the Templars time to master First Civilization technology and lay waste to the planet.

Ratonhnhaké:ton was shown Assassin symbols and told to follow them to find training.

These visions instilled Ratonhnhaké:ton with a sense of personal responsibility to prevent the Templars from achieving their goals. The Clan Mother realized that to save their village from annihilation, she had no choice but to let the boy pursue his destiny. She advises him to go to the east and seek the symbol to find a man who had helped his mother.

A Boorish Man: Davenport Manor, British America, 1769-10-04

Following his visions of Assassin symbols, Ratonhnhaké:ton arrived at a crumbling manor belonging to a man named Achilles Davenport, who at one time was the mentor of the North American Assassin Brotherhood.

Ratonhnhaké:ton asked Achilles to instruct him, but the old man wanted nothing to do with the boy and warned him against following the path of the Assassin. Undeterred by the refusal, Ratonhnhaké:ton camped out in the stables next to the mansion, where he was attacked by thieves. Achilles came to his aid and after killing the thieves, he allowed the boy inside his home to discuss his purpose.

Connor and the Assassins: Davenport Manor, British America, 1769-10-29

Ratonhnhaké:ton convinced Achilles to tell him about the Brotherhood and their eternal struggle against the Templar Order. Achilles revealed the Templar conspiracy to dominate the world, and spoke about the rise of the American Templars and the fall of the Assassins during the Seven Years' War in North America.

The boy came to realize that his visions were referring to the conflict between the Assassins and the Templars, and he started to show a serious interest in the Assassins' cause. During these history lessons, Ratonhnhaké:ton noticed that Achilles had created charts tracking the movements and important players along his basement walls.

He recognized Charles Lee's portrait on the wall as well as that of his father, Haytham. He understood that all the Templars had to be eliminated, including his father.

The boy's fierce determination and unlimited potential began to restore Achilles' faith in the Assassins and their mission.

The Compleat Assassin: Davenport Manor, British America, 1769-11-03

To stop the Templar Order's advancement in North America, Achilles agreed to train Ratonhnhaké:ton in the ways of a true Assassin.

Ratonhnhaké:ton not only learned how to use various weapons and hand-to-hand techniques, he also received lessons in philosophy, language, arts, and other liberal disciplines. He was to be a complete Assassin, knowing not only the arts of assassination, but understanding the history and philosophy of the Order.

Achilles' Errand: Boston, British America, 1770-03-05

After several months of Assassin training, Achilles decided to restore his manor. Accordingly, he brought his protégé Ratonhnhaké:ton – whom he renamed Connor – to Boston to get the supplies for the renovations.

Although he was initially excited about the action and the opportunities available in the city, Connor quickly picked up on the anxiety and tense atmosphere that permeated the streets.

While he did not yet understand the context, Connor overheard citizens arguing over the treatment of the colonies by the British Parliament.

Chaos at the Custom House: Boston, British America, 1770-03-05

After purchasing items needed to renovate the Manor, Connor returned to Achilles and together they noticed a commotion in the streets of Boston. People were rushing towards the Custom House. Demonstrators were yelling anti-British slogans, and some were being restrained and beaten by Redcoats.

Connor and Achilles arrived near the Massachusetts Town House and found a crowd of citizens confronting British soldiers in a tense standoff. Achilles grabbed Connor and directed his attention towards Connor's father, Haytham Kenway, who was speaking with a Templar sniper. He asked Connor to stop the sniper, who he suspected was going to set off the crowd like a powder keg.

The Templar Sniper: Boston, British America, 1770-03-05

Connor followed the sniper through the streets and up to a rooftop. Meanwhile, the commotion in the crowd continued, forcing the British soldiers to form a firing line to confront the citizens. Connor stopped the sniper, but was too late to notice Charles Lee on another rooftop, who fired into the crowd.

The Redcoats believed that shot came from the crowd and returned fire, hitting several citizens with their shots. This event, which resulted in several deaths and injuries, would later be known as the Boston Massacre. Haytham Kenway pointed out Connor to a British soldier, suggesting that he fired the first shot.

Boston's Most Wanted: Boston, British America, 1770-03-05

Connor was on the run from the Redcoats who had mistaken him for a sniper who fired into the crowd near the Massachusetts Custom House. Connor tried to find Achilles but was called aside by Samuel Adams, a colonial activist. Adams revealed that he and Achilles were old friends and he offered to help Connor escape Boston.

Adams suggested that Connor remove "Wanted" posters calling for his arrest to reduce his notoriety. Meanwhile, Adams set up a ruse with a town crier to divert the attention of the citizens away from Connor.

Lying Low: Boston, British America, 1770-03-05

Samuel Adams realized that British troops were still searching the city for Connor. After giving British patrols the slip, Adams showed Connor a secret entrance that led them to an underground labyrinth of tunnels and chambers that had been built by the Freemasons.

After briefly losing their way, Connor found a door which led to the printer's shop responsible for the "Wanted" posters. Adams negotiated with the printer to clear Connor's name.

Although Connor questioned Adams' dishonest tactics, he realized the complexity of the situation required a certain amount of scheming to escape trouble.

The Lost Son's Return: Davenport Manor, British America, 1770-03-18

Connor escaped Boston and made his way back to Achilles' homestead. Connor was so frustrated about having been abandoned by Achilles that he didn't realize the value of the experience he gained from his activities in the city. Connor was also upset that his father had been able to flee the scene without punishment.

Achilles talked Connor down and highlighted the importance of being patient before confronting Haytham and the Templars. Achilles then offered Connor the Hidden Blades, signature weapons of the Assassin.

River Rescue: Davenport Manor, British America, 1770-03-18

Connor heard a noise outside Achilles' manor and opened the door to find a man named Godfrey. The frantic man, who had been calling for help, immediately started running towards the river. Godfrey explained to Connor that his partner Terry had fallen into the river while wrangling logs and was swept away by the current.

Connor leapt into action, grabbed Terry, and pulled him out of the river. Afterwards, Connor asked both lumberjacks to come work on the manor which needed a lot of wood to restore it. Terry, Godfrey, and their wives settled near the manor and began to work on the renovations.

This was only the first of many tasks Connor would perform as the keeper of the Davenport Homestead. Colonial America was a harsh and dangerous place for settlers, and Connor found himself using his Assassin skills to rescue many of them. Several moved onto the homestead, either out of gratitude, business sense, or both; it was a safe area with many resources to harvest and prepare. Skilled craftsmen, farmers, and hunters were among those Connor invited to live on his mentor's land.

The Aquila: Davenport Manor, British America, 1770-03-18

Achilles met Connor at the shoreline near his manor to show him the husk of an old, decrepit ship. They met with Robert Faulkner, who was obviously proud of the ship, and who said he could repair "her" if only he had some supplies. This flagship of the Assassin navy, named the Aquila, later became Connor's ship.

Achilles also showed Connor a ledger representing the homestead's income and resources and taught him how to manage it all.

Connor Takes the Helm: Oak Bluffs, British America, 1773-09-13

With the Aquila restored and ready to sail once more, Robert Faulkner taught Connor how to handle the ship. The Aquila set out on the Atlantic Ocean and they dropped anchor near Martha's Vineyard to buy guns and recruit gunnery officers.

Faulkner led Connor to a tavern where he met up with the brothers David and Richard Clutterbuck, whom he intended to hire as gunnery officers. Meanwhile, Connor spotted the Templar Benjamin Church, who was chatting with British naval officer Nicholas Biddle, and asked about the location of Charles Lee. After a tense confrontation, Connor, Faulkner, and the Clutterbucks left the tavern and returned to the Aquila.

British Frigates: Vineyard Sound, British America, 1773-09-13

After leaving Martha's Vineyard, Faulkner ran Connor through some target practice, using British shipwrecks as targets. In particular, he showed Connor how to use the Aquila's swivel gun to explode powder barrels and cause major damage.

The exercise turned serious when a British patrol turned hostile and targeted the Aquila. Three schooners and then a frigate attacked Connor's vessel. Connor and his crew managed to eliminate them and continue on their way back to Davenport Manor.

The Day the Templars Cried: Davenport Manor, British America, 1773-09-27

After months of intense training in combat, philosophy, and naval tactics, Connor's mentor Achilles was content. He presented Connor with the traditional Assassin robes and gear and officially welcomed him into the Assassin Brotherhood.

As a full member of the Brotherhood, it was now Connor's responsibility to confront the Templars. But first, he needed to uncover details regarding their involvement in North America's increasingly unstable political environment.

Kanen'tó:kon's Visit: Davenport Manor, British America, 1773-10-12

Connor continued to train and hone his skills, knowing a confrontation with the Templars was fast approaching. One day, Achilles gave Connor a new weapon that had been left by an Assassin named Shao Jun.

Before he could practice further with the rope darts, Connor received a surprise visit from a familiar face. His childhood friend, Kanen'tó:kon, was now a full-grown warrior and a leader of their home village.

Their happy reunion was cut short by the news that their village was about to be sold and the villagers were being forced to leave. The purchase was even approved by the Iroquois Confederation.

Connor learned that the Templar William Johnson was responsible for the deal to oust his fellow villagers. He slammed a hatchet into one of the pillars of the mansion, explaining to Achilles that it was a symbol of his war with the Templars.

Silent Hunter: Davenport Manor, British America, 1773-10-12

On the Davenport Homestead, Connor met an injured hunter named Myriam. She said she'd been attacked by poachers after she confronted them. After Connor brought her to Achilles for help, he went after the poachers using his rope darts. He eliminated them, then invited Myriam to live on the homestead. She agreed, and began to supply furs and other goods to the growing community.

On Johnson's Trail: Boston, British America, 1773-11-06

Connor journeyed to Boston to locate William Johnson, to stop him from buying up lands and pushing the indigenous people further west. Connor sought out colonial activist Samuel Adams, asking for help finding Johnson. Adams agreed, saying he was heading to a meeting with some men who could help.

While walking the streets of Boston, Connor once again took notice of the chaos in the city as citizens protested the current state of affairs in which the British could compel them to board soldiers or provide supplies for little or no recompense.

Taxes and Tea: Boston, British America, 1773-11-15

Connor and Samuel Adams discussed the unrest in Boston. The tension started when new taxes were raised against the colonies, in particular a high tax imposed on British tea. The citizens found the taxes unfair and began to fight back against the Redcoats who were charged with enforcing British law.

Connor helped the colonists fight the tax collectors. In particular, Connor helped Stéphane Chapheau, a Boston militiaman who worked at William Molineaux's restaurant. Connor was disturbed by the tax collectors' violent actions, and did not hesitate to oppose them.

The Assassins also discovered that the Templar William Johnson was taking advantage of the high price of tea and colonial boycotts of British products to engage in a lucrative tea smuggling operation. Connor was convinced that Johnson was using the tea smuggling revenue to purchase the land under his home village.

Connor, along with Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty, vowed to put an end to it. Exploring the docks, Connor located three smuggling operations and destroyed their stockpiles of tea.

The Angry Chef: Boston, British America, 1773-12-03

Connor returned to Molineaux's restaurant, only to find Samuel Adams missing and Chapheau complaining he'd been robbed. He followed Chapheau around Boston while the chef riled up people against the injustices committed by the British.

Connor tried to calm him, but the chef was furious. The Assassin had to defend him as he rampaged through the streets and picked fights with Redcoats. Finally, he managed to teach Chapheau to control his rage and choose his targets carefully. After successfully assassinating a man working for Johnson, the chef agreed to join Connor in his cause. He would be one of many recruits Connor would bring to the side of the Assassins.

The Tea Party: Boston, British America, 1773-12-16

Connor continued to search for his ally Sam Adams. He eventually made his way to the Old South Meeting House, where he overheard Bostonians discuss returning tea to Great Britain to avoid paying the high taxes placed upon the product. The resentment from the citizens was growing, as was their willingness to physically resist the British.

At the Old South Meeting House, Connor heard Samuel Adams declare: "This meeting can do nothing further to save this country," a statement that doubled as a covert signal for the Sons of Liberty to destroy the merchandise. He confronted Adams, demanding more

information before he would assist with his plans. Adams proudly explained that by dumping British tea in Boston harbor, Connor would not only be aiding the cause of liberty, but also depriving Johnson of his source of revenue and keeping him from purchasing Connor's home village. Adams suggested that Connor lead the "party" to keep them out of trouble, and Connor agreed.

Sinking Profits: Boston, British America, 1773-12-16

Connor and his allies approached three ships anchored in the harbor and loaded with tea: the Beaver, the Eleanor, and the Dartmouth. Connor dispatched the guards, allowing his allies onboard to begin their work. They smashed three hundred and forty chests of British East India Company tea, and dumped approximately forty-six tons of it into the water. Redcoats arrived, and Connor defended his allies (in particular Paul Revere and William Molineaux) as they destroyed the tea. They saved the last crate for him, which he dropped in the water as Templars William Johnson, John Pitcairn, and Charles Lee looked on.

The Templars could only watch, powerless, as their smuggling income sank in front of them, and with it, any plans to use that money to purchase native lands.

Hostile Negotiations: John's Town, British America, 1774-07-11

After the Boston Tea Party, Connor reported back to Achilles. He assumed Connor had killed William Johnson, and was disappointed to hear otherwise. Connor believed that by destroying Johnson's tea smuggling operation, he had stopped the Templars' ability to buy indigenous lands, including his home village. However, by sparing Johnson's life, he gave the Templars a chance to create other sources of income and continue their plans.

Six months later, Kanen'tó:kon returned to the Davenport Homestead to tell Connor that Johnson had raised the money to buy their village out from under them. Achilles reminded Connor of how resourceful the Templars were. Connor headed out with his friend, determined to stop Johnson.

Ultimately, Connor realized that his only chance to stop the purchase of his village was to kill Johnson. Kanen'tó:kon showed him Johnson Hall, Johnson's cliff-top meeting place, and Connor set off alone to infiltrate it. He found Johnson there in discussions with some natives. They accused Johnson of lying, saying he did not provide the support he promised. Johnson announced he'd tried to solve things peacefully, before telling his armed guards to attack his visitors. Connor assassinated Johnson, who declared with his dying breath that he was only trying to stop more violence.

Meeting the Commander-in-Chief: Philadelphia, British America, 1775-06-15

Connor went to Philadelphia with Samuel Adams and John Hancock to attend the Continental Congress ceremony where George Washington was appointed as the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army.

Connor was introduced to Washington, who was already aware of the young Assassin's achievements at the battles of Lexington and Concord.

Breed's Hill: Breed's Hill, USA, 1775-06-17

Hoping to locate John Pitcairn, Connor searched for a patriot camp on Bunker Hill, but realized that the patriot troops were located on Breed's Hill, where they were fighting the British for control of the area surrounding Boston. The patriots never caught sight of Pitcairn, as he had never arrived on the frontline.

During the battle, the patriots suffered heavy cannon fire from the British. In order to draw Pitcairn out, Connor moved towards the British ship in the Charlestown Peninsula, to stop the heavy artillery being launched at the patriots. After fighting Redcoats and disabling their cannons, Connor replaced the British flag on the ship with the flag of Bunker Hill to signal to Israel Putnam's command that the naval threat had been eradicated.

Battle of Bunker Hill: Moulton Hill, USA, 1775-06-17

After succesfully eliminating the artillary fire coming from Boston Harbor, Connor returned to Breed's Hill. He arrived in time to hear Putnam order his men 'don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes'. Putnam later told Connor that Pitcairn had left Boston, and that he and the British troops had set up at Moulton Hill. Though in a disadvantageous position, the loyalist forces began their attack.

Connor made his way towards Moulton Hill. He raced through cannon fire and musket shot to reach the camp at which Pitcairn had encamped. Though the Templar was heavily guarded, Connor was able to reach Pitcairn and kill him.

Pitcairn denied, until his dying breath, any plans to murder Adams and Hancock. He claimed to have wanted peaceful negotiations in order to prevent more confrontations between the colonist's and the British authorities.

When Connor returned to Putnam, the General congratulated him on eliminating Pitcairn, but said he had to withdraw his forces from the battle anyway. Connor showed Putnam a letter he'd retrieved from Pitcairn's coat. The contents of the letter proved to be highly disturbing: a plot to kill George Washington.

The Plot to kill Washington: Davenport Manor, British America, 1775-08-22

After recovering a letter from the body of the Templar agent John Pitcairn, which revealed a plot to kill George Washington, the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army, Connor returned to Achilles' manor. There, he met with Benjamin Tallmadge who provided crucial details of the conspiracy. The Templars had tasked Thomas Hickey with the kill.

Tallmadge and Connor set out for New York to find and stop Hickey.

Empty Hands: New York, USA, 1776-06-28

Achilles meet Connor under the gallows, and handed him his tomahawk. Connor ran through the panicked crowd to catch up with Thomas Hickey before he could reach George Washington. He struck down Hickey, then demanded answers about the Templars' plans. Hickey said he cared little for Templar philosophy and declared he'd done their will for money, not principle.

After Hickey died, Connor found himself surrounded by guards with muskets. But General Israel Putnam ordered the guards to stand down, calling Connor a hero and Hickey a scoundrel. Connor asked where Washington was, and Putnam told him the General had left for Philadelphia.

After eliminating Thomas Hickey, Connor set out to find George Washington in order to prevent any other Templar attempts on his life.

Connor found Achilles in the hall of the Pennsylvania State House. He counselled Connor that Washington did not need to know about the Templar threat. Connor restrained himself and attended the formal ceremony of the Declaration of Independence.

The signing of the Declaration of Independence dealt a severe blow on the Templars' goals to control the growing Revolution.

A Bitter End: Martinique, 1778-03-07

After Benjamin Church escaped through an abandoned brewery in New York, the Assassin Connor and his father learned that Church had sailed for Martinique. Haytham was alarmed, but Connor informed him that he had a ship, the Aquila. They sailed in pursuit of Church's ship, the Welcome.

In close pursuit, the Aquila maneuvered between islands and reefs to engage the Welcome, which had several smaller ships supporting it. The Aquila was engaged several times by these vessels, as they attempted to end the chase, but Connor eliminated them all. Haytham suggested sinking the Welcome, but Connor insisted on boarding, so they could recover the stolen supplies. Once the last of Church's escort had been disposed of, the Aquila was able to close, allowing Connor and Haytham to lead a party on board.

Connor discovered his father in the hold, brutally beating Benjamin Church, accusing him of betraying the Templar cause. Connor asked for the location of the supplies, but Church refused, and Connor fatally stabbed him. The Templar finally revealed that the supplies were on the island awaiting retrieval, but he insisted, to the end, that he had been justified in his actions.

Troubling Information: Valley Forge, USA, 1778-06-04

Connor and his father, the Templar Grand Master Haytham Kenway, traveled to Valley Forge to inform George Washington that the British were marching from Philadelphia towards New York.

While Connor tried to report to Washington, Haytham forced the Commander-in-Chief to admit to having ordered military operations against allied native communities who were collaborating with the British. Haytham also forced Washington to admit that he ordered similar attacks during the Seven Years War, suggesting that Washington was partially responsible for the destruction of Connor's home village, which claimed the life of his mother in 1760.

After hearing this shocking information, Connor became disillusioned with the Patriots' sense of justice and freedom. Though he continued to fight for the Patriot cause, Connor cut his ties with Haytham and Washington alike.

Battle of Monmouth: Monmouth Battlefield, USA, 1778-06-28

On June 28, 1778, Connor arrived near Charles Lee's location on Monmouth road. There, he found the Marquis de Lafayette giving orders to a group of soldiers confronting the British Army.

Lafayette was confident that his forces were about to be victorious, but then he observed the arrival of a huge contingent of British reinforcements. Lafayette ordered his men to fall back, and Connor volunteered to cover their retreat. Lafayette gratefully assigned him a squad of his best soldiers and Connor made ready to hold their ground. He commandeered a cannon and used it to destroy enemy platoons until he ran out of ammunition. Then, he continued to cover the Patriot retreat while on the move.

When Connor finally reached Washington's position, he informed him of Lee's betrayal. Lafayette confirmed his story, saying Lee had been acting strangely. Washington said he would investigate the situation.

Battle of the Chesapeake Bay: Chesapeake Bay, USA, 1781-09-05

Connor sailed to the Chesapeake Bay and joined forces with the Comte de Grasse to fight alongside the French Navy. Despite the lack of reinforcements and severe enemy bombardment, Connor was able to hold the bay.

In the heat of the battle, Connor left the wheel of the Aquila to Robert Faulkner and worked his way across the enemy's man-of-war, damaging the ship and killing many of its crew. He returned to the Aquila after sinking the enemy's ship. After an exchange of heavy cannon fire, the French Navy emerged victorious in the Battle of Chesapeake Bay. This battle coupled with the siege of Yorktown, marked the end of the Revolutionary War, as Great Britain could no longer afford to support the conflict.
