Ōtsu (大津市, Ōtsu-shi) is a city and the capital of Shiga Prefecture, Japan, located south of Lake Biwa.[1] Formerly part of Omi Province during the Sengoku period, the city was split into two districts, Upper Otsu and Lower Otsu.[2]
History
In late June 1582, Yasuke, the former retainer to Oda Nobunaga, traveled to Ōtsu to meet with a contact of Lady Nene for more information on the Shinbakufu. The contact, a shrine maiden named Aoi, informed Yasuke of an upcoming duel scheduled to take place on Seta Bridge in the east, where one of the duelist was a rumored Shinbakufu member. She then directed him to the bridge, where he would be able to find out more information about the duel.[3]
