During the 15th century, Venice was a part of a republic: The Most Serene Republic of Venice (Venetian: (Serenìsima) Repùblica Vèneta or Repùblica de Venesia, Italian: Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia) or Venetian Republic, often referred to as La Serenissima, in reference to its title in Venetian. The republic itself extended to a part of the Northeastern Italy and the coasts of the Adriatic Sea.

Venice was formed from the refugees from the Hunnic and Germanic invasion of Padua, Aquileia, and Altino. Since, Venice became a major trade and naval power in not just Italy, but all of Europe. The city soon became the new battleground of the war between the Assassins and Templars.

Landmarks

Assassin's Creed II follow its original trademark of using famous real-life landmarks. But instead of the marvels of the Holy Land, Assassin's Creed II features landmarks such as Piazza San Marco, St. Mark's Basillica, the Grand Canal, the Little Canal, and Rialto Bridge.

The Carnival of Venice is also featured in the game, altering the environment into a more festive atmosphere. Jesters and other performers and entertainers as well dancing is added into the city during the Carnival after you reach the memory.

Trivia

  • Even after the events of Carnevale, the citizens will continue to celebrate it for the remainder of the game, albeit without fireworks.
  • The enemies in Venice are for more skilled than the enemies in Florence, and are better equiped.
